Roadtrip 2014: Vancouver - Yakima - Boise - Provo - Flagstaff - Tucson - Palm Springs - Paso Robles - Sacramento - Eureka - Bandon - Seaside - Vancouver

Day 17 - Kitt Peak

It's blazing hot in Tucson today. Time to get us some cool mountain air.

Stone Henge comes to Tucson.

Roof top parking at Cindy Lou's.

As always, the government would have you looking at the ground instead of the skies. The real danger is in the skies.

But somebody is always watching.

Watching over a vast terrain.

A while back the Kitt Peak administrators thought it would be a good idea to provide the scientists with opportunities for some good outdoor exercise. They never asked the scientists.

Turns out there was a partial solar eclipse today. This is what it looked like through a specialized solar telescope. Sunspots and prominences are clearly visible along with the moon's bite. At least, I think it's the moon.

That's the guy driving the solar telescope.

View towards the heavily patrolled Mexican border.

Wendy likes to get closer to the 5,000 foot drop than I.

Best roof top patio with a view in the south west. Alas, they are not servng drinks and snacks today..

Wendy and Emma check out the World Famous Kitt Peak Ski Jump.

Could be the most precarious picnic spot in the west - hope that thing's engineered right.

Nevermore!

The vast, vast expanse of the parking lot.

Beyond the parking lot - Northern view from Kitt Peak.
